Headlong artistic director Jeremy Herrin has revealed his inaugural season, which will include new plays by Jack Thorne, Duncan Macmillan and a new adaptation of Frank Wedekind‘s Spring Awakening by Anya Reiss. The touring theatre company’s 2014 programme begins with Reiss’s version of Spring Awakening, directed by Ben Kidd. It will run from March 7 to March 22 at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, with press night on March 11, before running at the Nuffield theatre in Southampton from March 25 to April 5. The co-production, with Nuffield and the West Yorkshire Playhouse, will then tour to other UK venues including those in Cambridge, Richmond, Liverpool and Newcastle. The collaboration with West Yorkshire Playhouse is part of a new three-year partnership with the venue, which will enable the touring company to continue its emerging directors scheme. Thorne’s new play with music, Junkyard, is described as a piece “about Bristol for Bristol” and is set in a playground in the northern suburbs of the city. The show will be co-produced with Bristol Old Vic. Further details have yet to be announced. Herrin will direct Macmillan’s new work, People, Places and Things, which has been described as a play about addiction and recovery. More details will be confirmed shortly. Macmillan joins the company as its literary associate for the new season
